The third option is to use mod podge. Overlapping the items is fine. Place the next layer down and smooth. Take a wet cloth and lay it over the mod podge for 3 4 minutes.

The idea is that it will prepare the surface of the canvas so that the vinyl will stick to it. Step 4 brush additional mod podge over the decoupage items with the paintbrush to seal the canvas.
